5 months after lip piercing?

I had my snakebites done back in December. They healed fine and everything. Then all the sudden, a strange hardness on my right lip ring started appearing after about 1 month and 2 weeks after the piercing. I asked questions on yahoo, some said it was infected, so I went to a doctor and they saw no infection. So, I searched the net for more answers and they said it was scar tissue, told me to rub e cream on the hardness around the hole. So I did about 2 months later, I see no difference on size. My piercer lives about 9 hours out of town. So, this is why I haven't found out what it is yet! I play with my piercing constantly, I'm always touching that one cause I know that hardness is there. Sometimes the bump will go down, when I don't touch it. But when I just feel it again, it's hard. Sometimes there are whitey with a lil' bit of tinge crusties. Is it still healing? should I have my hands off it? should I be cleaning it? Help please! I need to know what it is!
