How do i bring this up to my mom?

Well first of all, I think it's very considerate of you to be so worried for your mother. I think if you tell her you guys were just joking, she'll be ok. You can also just not participate in the joke, if you can. Also, I don't think there's really any need to tell your mom about it at all. It's not that big of a deal.
